“Growth happens when you get to the edge of your comfort zone and keep pushing through.”

Podcast Synopsis

On Wednesday’s podcast with @f3nation_official founder David Redding, he spoke of a concept that they have of CSAUP or Completely Stupid and Utterly Pointless workouts thrown in every so often to build fellowship and character. We have something similar but they are much more frequent and escalating in difficulty.

What are they?  Something like a Tough Mudder might qualify. But after doing that, then what?  How about a Triple Murph?  Or a Memorial Day workout that includes 3 Murphs, 13 miles of running, 1000 burpees, 2 or 3 other CrossFit workouts and a running time of 5 hours?  Read about this workout here

Maybe escalate even further to @sealfit Kokoro or @goruck Selection? Read about those here

On today’s podcast, I go over why I keep these types of things on the calendar and train for them regularly. Despite the reaction I get from people who don’t train much, I don’t think these events are completely stupid or pointless at all. In fact, it is things like these that stretch me as a person, get me out of my comfort zone and allow growth in all areas of my life. Check out today’s episode and let me know what you think.

The definition of a workout that is CSAUP is when you tell someone what you are doing and they say, “I don’t get it…” Despite the name, I do think that there is a purpose for doing workouts like this (like a Tough Mudder) and I think they create a lot of value. While they might be completely stupid, they aren’t utterly pointless.

The reason that I choose to put events like this on my schedule is because it stretches you. I believe that you thrive on the edge of your comfort zone. Growth happens when you get to the edge of your comfort zone and keep pushing through. That is why I have events that might seem completely stupid as a normal part of my physical activities.
