Why I Wanted Brian Latimer On the Show

Brian told me it would take longer than an hour to tell his whole story of getting into fishing, and I believe it, given he grew up in a fishing family in the 1980s and cannot remember a time he wasn't fishing. What made me want this conversation was watching him actually win an FLW tournament after years of starting and stopping while he figured out if the career would work, and I wanted to hear how he got through that.

From Landscaping to Chasing a Fishing Career

Brian had an associate degree in horticulture and ran a successful landscaping business before deciding, after real soul-searching, to go all in on professional fishing starting in 2004. That is not a small leap, and I wanted him to walk through what that decision actually looked like from the inside, including the stopping and starting before it took off.

Why Sports Psychology Became Part of His Training

Brian started researching sports psychology and studying people who were good at the mental game across every kind of sport. What struck him was that many of the people who had the biggest impact were dealing with circumstances far worse than his own, and that reframed how he saw his own struggle. That mindset work is a big part of why this conversation goes beyond just tackle and technique.

Final Thoughts From Me

Brian is working hard every day to be the best he can be, and this conversation covers his mindset, work ethic, family, and the achievements along the way, right after that FLW win.
