Parker Rabow - Florida Fantasy Fishing Camp is a Tom Rowland Podcast conversation with the founder of a summer camp built entirely around fishing, where campers dealing with confidence issues or attention challenges land among kids who already speak the same fishing language, often with a bigger turnaround in communication and confidence than in casting technique.
It is a summer camp built entirely around fishing rather than one that offers fishing as a single activity alongside horseback riding, canoeing, or rock climbing. Parker Rabow runs the program.
Parker says a surprising number of campers arrive with behavioral or educational challenges such as ADHD or ADD, along with confidence issues, and putting them in an environment built around something they already love, alongside other kids with the same values, produces a real turnaround, not only in fishing skill but in how they communicate.
From all over the country, including Colorado, Georgia, New York, and Texas. Parker says the campers already speak the same fishing language before they arrive, since most have watched the same YouTube fishing content and shows.
After having Matt Budd of Jupiter Fishing Academy on the podcast to talk about his own kids' fishing program, a listener emailed Tom recommending he look into Florida Fantasy Fishing Camp as well, which led him to track down and book Parker Rabow.
Parker Rabow is the founder and operator of Florida Fantasy Fishing Camp, a summer camp program built around fishing rather than treating it as one activity among many.
Over the years I have gotten a lot of questions from parents who have kids that are really into fishing and want them to have more chances to do it. Most of the camps I knew about treated fishing as one activity among many, so when I finally found a program built entirely around it, I wanted to hear how it actually worked, both for the kids who are already obsessed and for the ones who are struggling with confidence or attention in other parts of their life.
Parker describes campers arriving with real behavioral and educational challenges and turning a corner once they are surrounded by peers who share the exact same interest and values. The change he describes goes beyond fishing skill into how these kids communicate and carry themselves, and it is worth hearing him explain it directly rather than secondhand.
This episode almost did not happen. I had already featured Matt Budd's Jupiter Fishing Academy on the show, and I assumed that covered the topic, until a listener sent me an email pointing me toward Florida Fantasy Fishing Camp. Tracking down Parker and hearing how his program actually runs, including where these kids come from and what they have in common before they ever meet, made it clear the listener was right to point me there.
Hearing how much these kids already have in common before they ever set foot at camp, purely from growing up watching the same fishing content, was a reminder of how much community this sport can build for young people who might not find it as easily anywhere else.

EP 131 - Parker Rabow - Florida Fantasy Fishing Camp
Parker Rabow: You would be surprised how many campers we have come to us with a lot of behavioral and educational disorders as far as ADHD and ADD and confidence issues. And when you put them in an environment with something that they love, with other campers who share the same exact values that they have never met before, it is incredible the turnaround that you see. And that is not just in their fishing skills, that is in their communication skills and everything. We have campers from all over the country who all speak the same fishing language. They have all watched the same YouTube programs, they have all watched your show. They know about everything that is going on, and they are from Colorado, they are from Georgia, New York, a lot of Texas, and they all are talking about the same lures, the same videos that they have seen. It is really interesting and cool to see. My name is Parker Rabow, and this is the Tom Rowland Podcast.
Tom Rowland: Over the years, I have gotten a lot of questions from parents who have kids that are really into fishing, and they want them to have the opportunity to do more fishing. And one of those opportunities seems to be a summer camp kind of a situation, but a lot of parents find that there are plenty of summer camps that offer fishing programs, it is part of the summer camp, so you might ride horses, you might do a little fishing, you might do a little rock climbing, canoeing, all kinds of stuff like you have at typical summer camps. But it was quite a while before I found any sort of a camp type operation that was all about fishing. So I started doing a little research, and I found my friend Matt Budd has Jupiter Fishing Academy, which is really cool, and had him on the podcast to learn about his program, which is fantastic. And then I also learned about someone else after that podcast, I had one of the listeners send me an email saying, hey man, you should check out this one, Florida Fantasy Fishing Camp. So I tracked it down, checked it out.
