The Albright knot is a line-to-line connection used to join two dissimilar lines, and it really shines for solid wire to monofilament. You double the leader, pass the other line through the loop, wrap back over itself ten times, feed the tag through the loop, and snug it down. On How 2 Tuesday I tie a knot and then actually test it. I tied this one with 20 pound braid to 40 pound fluorocarbon, and the result was disappointing. In this audio episode I break it down. Press play above.

The Albright knot ties two dissimilar lines together. It is really good for solid wire to monofilament, and some people also use it for braid to fluorocarbon. You double over the leader, pass your monofilament or braid through the loop and back over itself ten times, then put the tag end through the loop and snug it down. Trim the tags and you are ready to fish.
Tying 20 pound braid to 40 pound fluorocarbon, the Albright broke at an average of 13.99 pounds, which is a 70 percent knot. That is pretty disappointing for the Albright in this application. I like it very much for solid wire to monofilament or fluorocarbon, but for braid to fluorocarbon, 70 percent tells me there are better knots out there.
Double over your leader, then pass your monofilament or braid through the loop and wrap it back over itself ten times. Put the tag end through the same loop, pull it tight, and snug it down. Trim the tags and you are ready to go fishing. I walk through it in the episode.
Not in my testing. It came back at 70 percent with 20 pound braid to 40 pound fluorocarbon, and that is disappointing. I am not crazy about the Albright for braid to fluoro. Where it really shines is solid wire to monofilament or fluorocarbon. For braid to fluoro, you can definitely find stronger knots.
I like the Albright very much for solid wire to monofilament and solid wire to fluorocarbon. That is where it earns its keep. The strength I question is specifically with braid, where my test showed 70 percent. Match the knot to the materials, and the Albright is a good tool for the wire-to-mono job.
I document the breaking strength of every knot I tie on How 2 Tuesday and put it in a free knot guide. Go to tomrowlandpodcast.com and download it for free. It shows how the knots compare and links to the videos, so you can choose the best connection for your fishing.

I tied this one with 20 pound braid to 40 pound fluorocarbon and seated it before putting it on the scale. The Albright is a knot I trust for certain jobs, so I wanted to see how it did in this braid-to-fluoro test. I cover the tie in the episode, so press play in the player above.

Do not write off the Albright. I like it very much for solid wire to monofilament and solid wire to fluorocarbon, and that is where I reach for it. I am just not crazy about it for braid to fluorocarbon, where it gave me 70 percent.
